At 1100, on February 25, the “Day of Occupation” was celebrated in Mtskheta-Mtianeti region and in other parts of Georgia. The public paid tribute with one minute of silence to the memory of those who died as a result of Russian Bolshevik aggression and repression.

On February 24, the president of Georgia visited Dusheti. Mikheil Saakashvili went to the village of Mchadijvari to see the newly renovated kindergarten and the gym. Later he visited Dusheti where he opened the new police station building, and the culture center.
On January 24, Nika Gvaramia, the Minister of Education and Science, met with the teachers of Mtskheta-Mtianeti Region ( Mtskheta, Dusheti, Tianeti and Kazbegi) in Mtskheta Public school 2.
During this business meeting the Minister answered many questions. The meeting was attended by all the teachers from the region receiving the president’s scholarship. The Minister of Education was received by Caesar Chocheli, the President’s representative in Mtskehta–Mtianeti Region and the representatives of the municipality.
On January 6, 2009 , the representatives of Mtskheta-Mtianeti Region visited Dzegvi rehabilitation center to deliver food supplies for Christmas. Currently there are about 40 homeless children in the charity rehabilitation center under the patronage of Dzegvi St. George Mtsatsmindeli Nunnery. The Dzegvi children’s home has become known as a rehabilitation center only for a few years. It was originally established in 1995 and maintained through private donations.
On March 17, 2009, at 14.00 through the joint efforts of Tianeti public school 1, the memorial house museum, and the Tbilisi Youth Library, an event called “Mirza Gelovani’s Life and Death” was held. This year Mirza Gelovani would be 92 years old and in order to mark this fact, the students of Tianeti public school 1 once again paid tribute to a legendary countryman and popular poet. The children read the rhymes and letters he sent home from the front during the war, and recalled the episodes from his short and tragic life. Among the guests were the representatives of Tianeti Municipality as well as the members of the Writers’ Union and those admiring the poet’s works. The event lasted for a several hours.

On March 16, the Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri visited the employees of Mtskheta Board, and the Mtskheta-Mtianeti governor. The meeting took place in the foyer of public school 2. The Prime Minister addressed those main activities and plans that represent the priorities for the Georgian government during the last month. The Prime Minister talked about the employment situation representing the most important challenge facing the entire country of Georgia. He remarked that the presentation of a free industrial zone was held recently and pointed out that this is a sign of increased opportunities for employment for the local people. He also referred to commencement of road pavement projects, and the construction of several power stations. The Prime Minister also talked about the reduced rate insurance program that represents one of the most significant recent projects. Mr. Gilauri remarked also that a number of significant changes are expected in the system of education as a result of foreign investment in Georgia. The meeting was followed by a question and answer session that lasted for one hour.
On March 19, 2009, at 13.00 in the village of Naoza, Mtskheta Municipality, Golden Fleece, LTD., a canned food producer, held a public presentation. The event was sponsored by the program of agro-business development of the Millennium Foundation and was organized by CNFA- Georgia. Among the guests of the presentation were Mtskheta-Mtianeti Governor as well as other representatives of the regional administration. In addition, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Economic Development and the US Millennium Challenge Corporation were in also in attendance. The guests and dignitaries were shown around the event and were encouraged express their views.
In order to carry out the program of the millennium challenge, the Georgian government established the foundation called “the millennium challenge for Georgia.” This $295.3 million program was created as a result of a grant from the US government and is managed according to the priorities of the Georgian government. The grant will be used for the development of infrastructure and commerce throughout Georgia.
On March 20, the Board of Tianeti Municipality took the initiative to plant trees along the central streets in Tianeti. The employees of the Board as well as the senior students from the public schools 1 and 2. took part in the event. 50 pine saplings were planted. Such activities will continue to be held in phases throughout the municipality.
According to the National Environmental Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, there is a propensity for avalanche from 13.00 to 19.00 along Gudauri (Posta)–Kobi road, the part of Mtskheta- Stepantsminda- Larsi highway. Therefore, during this period movement of all kinds of vehicles is forbidden. From 19.00 until 13.00 towed, semi towed vehicles and buses with a maximum capacity of 30 passengers are not allowed, while other types of automobiles are allowed to drive using chains for skid resistance. Four wheel drive vehicles can drive without limitation. During this time there will be one lane traffic movement as convoy along Gudauri (Posta) – Kobi road. One convoy will include no more than 3-5cars. Along Gudauri ( Posta) - Kobi road no vehicles will be stopped. The police patrol will control and coordinate the movement of the vehicles based on the situation.
Along the same road, within 128 km, a rock fell down causing damage to a bridge. Therefore, only small vehicles are allowed to move in one lane and the other types of the vehicles are forbidden completely. Along the rest of the road the movement of the cars are not limited.
