On November19, the tire repair factory O.L. K., LTD.  delivered an overview presentation of their company operation  at  1 Saguramo St., Mtskheta. The Georgia branch was founded by Turgai Hussein Orkhan. The company offers customers cutting edge technology for tire repair.

Iliaoba (the day of St Ilia the Righteous)

On November 10, 2008 the renovated public schools were opened in the villages of Mukhrani and Misaktsieli, Mtkheta Municipality. The Prime Minister Grigol Mgaloblishvili, Gia Nodia, the Minister of Education and Science, and Caesar Chocheli, Mtskheta-Mtianeti Governor attended the event. The Prime Minister met with the teachers and discussed their problems. 

On November 8, under the leadership of Mtskheta-Mtianeti Governor, and Ilia Chavchavadze House-Museum, Georgian writers and public figures gathered in Saguramo to celebrate Ilia Chavchavadze’s 171th anniversary. At 0900 the solemn service was delivered in the church of Ilia the Righteous. After the completion of the mass at 1300, a reception was held. Among the guests were Caesar Chocheli, Mtskheta-Mtianeti Governor, and other representatives of the region. The dedicated writers received bonus money along with some other awards including the most prestigious one, the Ilia medal.  This year medal winner was Bidzina Kvernadze, the great Georgian composer. This event has been held in Saguramo for a number of years already, and is due to become a tradition in the future.

The commencement of the winter season is predicated on the amount of snow fall. This year the late snow fall allowed the local administration to be better prepared for the season.

New Year in Tserovani

As a result of the humanitarian situation in , in Mtskheta District in September 2008 caused by the Russian aggression, particularly in the villages of Tserovani, Akhaldaba (Prezeti), and Tsilkani, the government began the construction  of houses for displaced families from Akhalgori and Tskhinvali regions. The construction work is conducted by a company called  New Energy, Ltd., under the supervision of Caesar Chocheli, the Governor of Mtekheta- Mtianeti Region.  There will be some 300 cottage style houses of 56 square meters each built in the Akhaldaba.  Each inhabitant  will be given 2000 square meters of land. In Tsilkani, a more urban style of construction will provide housing for 400 families.  Each inhabitant will be given 1000 square meters of land. 
In Tserovani, an urban style of construction is likewise underway and entering its final phase. Here 2100 displaced families will be housed with each family receiving a 400 square meter parcel of land.  According to the plan, a commercial center, clinic, public school, and a kindergarten will be built. 
The current construction works in Mtskheta District are due to be completed by December 15, 2008. By the December 31, 2008, all the forcibly displaced families are due to be resettled in these locations. 

Refugee resettlement (Tserovani, Tsilkani, Prezeti)

Today the field hospital was opened in Tserovani for the forcibly displaced civilians during the Russo-Georgian war in August. 
 The field hospital will serve those refugees who will be settled in Tserovani beginning next January. 
The new hospital was opened by the Czech Foreign Ministry and Czech Humanitarian organization called “Hand of help”. The mobile field hospital is equipped with modern technology, beds, medical instruments, and heating system. The field hospital is manned by Kurta ambulance and hospital personnel. 
The presentation of the field hospital was attended by Alexander Kvitaishvili, the Minister of Labor, Health and Social Affairs, and Koba Subeliani, the Minister of Refugees and Resettlement. Caesar Chocheli, Mtskheta-Mtianeti Governor met with the guests in Tserovani.

On December, 2008 at the Hotel Mtskehta Palace, the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Judo Regional Federation held its first convention conducted by David Namgalauri, the chairman of Sports Department, and Dilar Khabuliani, the President of the Judo Federation.  Among the participants were other representatives of Mtskheta-Mtianeti sports organizations. The main issue on the agenda was to election of  the new president of Mtskheta-Mtianeti Judo Regional  Federation, the first and other vice presidents of the Federation, the secretary general of the federation, the executive committee, and the senior instructor of the region. As a result, Tamaz Tsopurashvili was elected as the president of the Federation, renowned Judo sportsmen Iveri Jikurauli, Beso Tsotskolauri and Zaza Gasitashvili  became the vice presidents. Gia Abuashvili was appointed secretary general of the federation. 11 candidates were selected for executive committee and all of them were approved unanimously by the members of the convention.  These candidates are Iveri Jikurauli, Merab Loseurashvili and Bidzina Mokhevishvili from Dusheti, Vakhtang Martoleki, Gocha Parkauli, Tamaz Tsopurashvili from Mtskheta,Goderzi Marsagishvili from Kazbegi, Ilia Archemashvili from

Dzegvi child home
On January 6, 2009 , the representatives of Mtskheta-Mtianeti Region visited Dzegvi rehabilitation center to deliver food supplies for Christmas. Currently there are about 40 homeless children in the charity rehabilitation center under the patronage of Dzegvi St. George Mtsatsmindeli Nunnery. The Dzegvi children’s home has become  known as a rehabilitation center only for a few years. It was originally established in 1995 and maintained through private donations. 

On December 30 the children from Tskhinvali and Akhalgori regions displaced as a result of the Russian aggression and resettled in the newly built cottage houses in the village of Tserovani attended the New Year celebration at so called Tserovani central square. In order to create New Year atmosphere the first fir tree was planted symbolically in Tserovani. Later small concert was held, and at the end Santa Claus delivered New Year presents to the children. 
  On  January 24, Nika Gvaramia, the Minister of Education and Science, met with the teachers of Mtskheta-Mtianeti Region (Mtskheta, Dusheti, Tianeti and Kazbegi)  in Mtskheta Public school 2. 
  During this business meeting the Minister answered many questions. The meeting was attended by all the teachers from the region receiving the president’s scholarship. Tsezar Chocheli, the President’s representative in Mtskehta–Mtianeti region and the representatives of the municipality also attended the visit of the Minister of Education in Mtskheta.

On February 24, the president of Georgia visited Dusheti.  Mikheil Saakashvili went to the village of Mchadijvari to see the newly renovated kindergarten and the gym.  Later he visited Dusheti  where he opened the new police station building, and the culture center.

  On March 16, the Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri met with the employees of Mtskheta Gamgeoba, and the Mtskheta-Mtianeti governor. The meeting took place in the foyer of public school  2. The Prime Minister addressed those main activities and plans that represent the priorities for the Georgian government during the last month.
  The Prime Minister talked about the employment problems, which is one of the most important problems in whole Georgia and admitted, that the presentation of a free industrial zone was held recently and this is a sign of increased opportunities for employment for the local people. He also talked about the commencement of road pavement projects, and the construction of several power stations. The Prime Minister also talked about the reduced rate insurance program that represents one of the most significant recent projects. Mr. Gilauri remarked also that a number of significant changes are expected in the system of education as a result of foreign investment in Georgia. The meeting was followed by a question and answer session that lasted for an hour


At 1100, on February 25, the “Day of Occupation” was celebrated in Mtskheta-Mtianeti region and in other parts of Georgia.  The public paid tribute with one minute of silence to the memory of those who died as a result of Russian Bolshevik aggression and repression.

  On March 17, 2009, at 14.00 by the joint efforts of Tianeti public school 1, the memorial house museum, and the Tbilisi Youth Library, an event called “Mirza Gelovani’s Life and Death” was held. This year Mirza Gelovani would be 92 years old and in order to mark this fact, the students of Tianeti public school 1 once again paid tribute to a legendary countryman and popular poet. The children read the rhymes and letters he sent home from the front during the war, and recalled the episodes from his short and tragic life.  Among the guests were the representatives of Tianeti Municipality as well as the members of the Writers’ Union and those people, who admire the poet’s works. The event lasted for a several hours

Mirza Gelovani Anniversary
  On March 19, 2009, at 13.00 in the village of Naoza, Mtskheta Municipality, Golden Fleece, LTD., a canned food producer, held a public presentation. The enterprise was sponsored by the program of agro-business development of the Millennium Foundation and was organized by CNFA- Georgia. Mtskheta-Mtianeti Governor, other representatives of the regional administration, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Economic Development and the representatives of the US Millennium Challenge Corporation attended this presentation. The guests and dignitaries were shown around the event and were encouraged express their views. 
  In order to carry out the program of the millennium challenge, the Georgian government established the foundation called “the millennium challenge for Georgia.” The $295.3 million  program was created as a result of a grant from the US government and is managed according to the priorities of the Georgian government. The grant will be used for the development of infrastructure and enterprise rehabilitation in the regions of Georgia.

  On March 20, Tianeti Gamgeoba Municipality took the initiative to plant trees along the central streets in Tianeti. The employees of the Gamgeoba as well as the senior students from the public schools 1 and 2 took part in the event. 50 pine saplings were planted. The activity will continue to be held in phases throughout the municipality.
